Differentiate yourself and stand out on social media.

We all know how important, and often how difficult it can be to grab and hold on to your audience’s attention on social media. Especially when it comes to business accounts, there’s always so many others in your niche who are trying to attract those exact same eyes.

So, what can we do to make ourselves stand out in a sea of endless content?

One thing that I’ve learned through much trial and error and from scrolling through posts on my own feed, is that giving a personal touch to your brand and social accounts really does wonders. It’s something that I’ve really come to value, and better yet – enjoy!

It took me a little bit of time (and courage) to get used to the idea of recording myself, but I’ve since realised how good it is to just sit down and share a quick behind-the-scenes update about what’s been going on in my biz-owner life – daily content, check!

Personally, I always love to get to know the person behind the brand, especially for small businesses. I want to see the face, hear the voice and sense the vibe of the person I’m following, after all – humans connect to other humans.

Now, you may be thinking to yourself, “my audience follows me because they’re interested in my business, why would they care to know more about me?”

Let me break down a few reasons as to why, regardless of what your biz account is all about, it’s great to pop in now and again with a friendly face for your audience to get to know.

Building Trust.

Even if your social media account is solely dedicated to your business and showcasing what you have to offer, at the end of the day we all know there’s a person behind the page.

I’m not suggesting that you should go ahead and upload a 5 minute video of yourself to your website’s landing page, but a couple of short clips every now and then to your social accounts should be very achievable.

For example, take advantage of the more relaxed, temporary features on Instagram like a short story post to share with your followers a little bit more about who you are.  As your audience gets to know you a little better, you’ll start to build up that human connection and trust with them – all of a sudden you go from being a faceless business account to a REAL person (who knew!?)

Engaging and Standing Out.

No matter how much I keep harping on about the importance of showing a bit of face on social media – many surprisingly don’t take the advice!

What does this mean for you? An opportunity to differentiate yourself and stand out amongst the rest.

If you’re that one account who makes the effort to show the personal side or behind-the-scenes to your brand that nobody else is doing – chances are that you’ll be the one who makes an impression. Especially if you’re posting relatable, personable and HUMAN updates for your audience to engage with, you’ll not only be recognised better by your followers, but actually remembered as the super cool business chick who keeps it real! (at least that’s what I like to believe).

But seriously, it’s so much easier to remember people who actually communicate with their face and voice, rather than just through their username and stock imagery. Be that one fabulous account that makes people want to stop and listen to what you have to say – even if it’s just a quick check in or update about a funny moment that’s happened in your work day.

There you have it, my final attempt to convince you to get out there and show some face on your socials! Remember – you don’t have to go all out straight away, even a simple selfie to get yourself started will do the trick. I promise that you’ll be surprised by how many people reach out to engage with you, and you won’t regret you did it!
